Lightning 003 Coffee El Salvador

$18.00

Lightning is proud to present its third limited edition run of specialty coffee roasted by good friend Chris Owens, whose resume includes being the former head roaster at Ritual Coffee, and co-founder of Handsome Coffee.

We began the limited series of coffee with Chris back in 2014 - occasional small run batches of exceptional beans - 001/Kenya, 002/Mexico - and couldn’t be more excited about the new 003 from El Salvador.

It’s delicious, of course, but even more importantly, the experience of drinking it is top notch. All good vibes all the time.

For this project,, Lightning will be donating 10% of proceeds to the Nature Conservancy for reforestation projects in El Salvador.

This lot comes exclusively from the Yellow Bourbon variety grown on the slopes of the famous Ilamatepec Volcano in Santa Ana. A recent endeavor from the Alvarez family seeking higher quality coffees and diversity of profiles, led them to plant a few years ago this variety. The lot has been prepared under high-quality standards set by El Borbollon mill which has more than a hundred years of experience growing and exporting coffees within the family.

Yellow Bourbon is traced back to Brazil, it seems to be a natural hybrid between Red Bourbon and Yellow Botucatu, the latter being a natural mutation of Typica. The responsible gene for such color of the pulp in coffee is known as Xanthocarpa. The selected lot was dried on raised beds for around 15 days.
